Average suitcases sizes

The average size of each case is shown below. For every case we provide the specific dimensions in the product description.

Size Height Width Depth
Large 78cm / 31in 48cm / 19in 29cm / 11in
Medium 76cm / 26in 44cm / 17in 25cm / 10in
Cabin 54cm / 21in 36cm / 14in 20cm / 8in

Suitcase capacity

Capacity measurements are based on the main compartment inside the suitcase, and are measured in litres. This is best used to simply compare different suitcases as it is difficult to visualise.

As a guide, our cabin cases have an average capacity of 25-30 litres, whilst our large cases have an average capacity of 80-100 litres. Capacity is shown in the description of all of our products.

If you would like advice on the correct size case for your trip, we would be delighted to help.

Cabin luggage

Tripp has suitcases to fit the BAA standard cabin allowance guideline for hand luggage, which is 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

This is used by leading airlines such as British Airways. Some budget airlines use a smaller cabin allowance of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, Tripp also has a wide range soft and hard suitcases specifically designed to fit these smaller cabin dimensions.

Luggage weight

Most Tripp suitcases are made with lightweight materials and construction. When identifying a range as lightweight we weigh the large suitcases. Large soft cases generally weigh 5kg or less, while large hard cases weighing 5.5kg or less are classed as lightweight. The smaller cases in each range naturally weigh less.

Tripp 'Superlite' soft luggage collection weighs much less and is our lightest luggage, the large case weighs less than 4kg. If you are looking for the lightest way to travel then also consider using large wheel duffles -these are often the lightest option due to their deconstructed design.

The benefits of using super-lightweight cases are that you will be able to carry more belongings within the same airline weight allowance.

Suitcase wheels

Our two-wheel suitcases are made with rubber wheels for a silent roll and with the suitcase angled the user has complete control with manoeuvrability. Most two-wheel cases feature a trolley handle for ease of use.

Four wheel cases also feature a trolley handle and are easier to manoeuvre in any direction. Rather than pulling the case behind you, you simply drive it alongside you.
