Janet Reger is often dubbed the Queen of Luxury Lingerie and has been a name affiliated with beautiful underwear for decades. In 2007 the brand celebrated its 40th birthday and continues to go from strength to strength, cementing its status as the place to go for exquisite underwear.
Janet attended the Leicester College of Technology in 1953. At a time when underwear was simple in design and kept to black or white in colour, Janet was designing co-ordinated sets in silks and satins. She had natural ability and flair to combine cut with cloth, line with fit, and style with practicality.
In 1965, having spent time in Zurich working as a freelance designer, Janet , her husband Peter and their young daughter Aliza returned to London. Peter took samples of Janet's innovative designs to leading London department stores and orders began flooding in.
With the changing social climate of the 60's and a more liberal attitude towards women's fashions, the Reger brand began to blossom. Janet's designs provided women with an opportunity to enjoy wearing beautiful underwear.
From its launch in 1967, Janet Reger mainline was synonymous with femininity, seduction, romance and glamour. The brand's introduction turned lingerie on its head with its innovative approach and paved the way for other designers in this arena. Celebrity fans included Joan Collins, Princess Margaret and Kylie Minogue.
Janet Reger and the range was an immediate success. This year, Debenhams is delighted to be celebrating 10 successful years of the Reger by Janet Reger collaboration which offers stunning designs in luxurious fabrics at affordable prices.
Sadly, Jane passed away in 2005 so Janet's daughter Aliza took over the brand. It continues to produce elegant, glamorous underwear for Debenhams. This year, the Reger brand and Debenhams celebrate ten years of partnership, drawing inspiration from the core brand to continue creating beautiful yet functional pieces for Reger by Janet Reger.
Style is all about … confidence, elegance and grooming.
My personal style is … less is more, pared down simple elegance and mostly neutral colours with the occasional splash of something bright.
My collection is …a beautiful and special collection that features sumptuous silks and satins and luxurious lace.
I’m inspired by … Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren... Paris, Milan and New York, beautiful things, places and people's kindness.
A woman looks great when … she smiles, had good posture, and knows what suits her.
A man should always … have clean hands and shoes, a good heart and a sense of humour.
My most treasured possession is …I treasure the people I love more than any possessions but I would say my engagement ring comes pretty close.
If I weren’t working in fashion … Not an option but I'd probably be something very geeky like an archaeologist.
My top tip is … To have self discipline and love yourself... If you love yourself then others will love you too.
