Meet the Designers

John Rocha Bio

John Rocha CBE is a Hong Kong born fashion designer of Chinese and Portuguese descent who is based in Ireland.

Rocha resides in Dublin, Ireland with his wife Odette (née Gleeson), who is a key member of his design team, and their two children, Simone and Max. Rocha has a second, older daughter, Zoe, from his first marriage to another Irish woman, Eily Doolan. The Rocha family keep a second home in the South of France, at St Jean Cap-Ferrat, in an area popular with other wealthy Irish friends, including Bono, the lead singer of Dublin rock band, U2.

Jasper Conran Bio

Jasper Conran, OBE, is a British designer. Having trained at Parson's School of Design in New York, he produced his first womenswear collection at the age of 19 and was subsequently awarded Designer of the Year. Celebrating over 30 years of the brand, he has since diversified from womenswear into menswear, fragrance, home, crystal, tableware and a diffusion clothing and accessories line. Continuing to expand his role in the world of design, he was recently appointed Chairman of The Conran Shop.

Jasper Conran was one of the first designers to collaborate on a high street collection with the launch of his diffusion womenswear line J By Jasper Conran - part of the Designers At Debenhams portfolio since 1996. This collection has enabled a wider audience to buy into the distinctive Jasper Conran style with its contemporary, timeless aesthetic, premium feel and attention to quality and detail. His work in Womenswear was subsequently followed by Childrenswear, Home and Menswear.

Ben De Lisi Bio

America-born, Ben de Lisi grew up in New York and studied sculpture at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Following his dream to become a fashion designer, in 1982 Ben moved to London and promptly produced his first capsule collection, to great acclaim.

Following this debut, Ben built up an independent brand with a loyal customer base and an established celebrity following.

In 1994 Ben began to show his collections at London Fashion Week, going on to win the coveted 'British Glamour Designer of the Year' award - twice - in 1994 and 1995. Ben is best known for dressing Kate Winslet for many red carpet events - most notably the stunning red rose one-shoulder design the actress wore for the 2002 Oscars.

Ben has been designing a diffusion line for Debenhams since 1997. Following its outstanding success, Ben launched his first homeware range in 2009. The collection was, and continues to be, inspired by the designer's own home, the interior of which has been the focus of features in many magazines and supplements. The 'Ella' cushion, featuring a graphic print of one of Ben's French Bulldogs, is Debenhams' fastest ever-selling cushion.

Principles by Ben de Lisi was launched in 2010, a collection that sees Ben take classic pieces and rework them to create a collection of elegant day and weekend wear, clothes that can easily be dressed up for evening or worn in the office.

Creating style for day and night, home and fashion, Ben de Lisi brings his inimitable vision to Designers at Debenhams.

Julien MacDonald Bio

Julien Macdonald, nicknamed the 'King of Glamour', grew up in South Wales before moving to Brighton to complete a textiles degree at the university there.

Following a Masters from the Royal College of Art in 1996, his work was soon noticed. Among his many admirers were the late Isabella Blow and Karl Lagerfeld, who Julien went on to work alongside, as well as Alexander McQueen.

In 2001 Julien cemented his status by landing the role of head designer at Givenchy. To date, he has received numerous awards for his work, as well as an OBE in 2006 for services to fashion.

To date, Julien has dressed celebrities such as Shirley Bassey and Cheryl Cole, designed a new uniform for British Airways and outfits for Kylie Minogue's world tour.

In 2001 and 2003 Julien received the British Glamour Designer of the Year award, a nod to his status as an important member of British fashion.

In 2003, Julien began designing a women's collection for Debenhams - Star by Julien Macdonald. This has since expanded to include women's occasionwear, accessories and homeware. Star by Julien Macdonald offers glamorous garments that create maximum impact. An additional collection, Diamond by Julien Macdonald, brings the Julien Macdonald signature look to the younger style generation.

Julien continues to create stunning, catwalk inspired pieces for his Debenhams range alongside his couture line.

Floozie Bio

In 1999 two friends, actress Sadie Frost and fashion designer Jemima French, set up the label FrostFrench.The two professional and family-focused women collaborated to produce an exciting and stylish range of women's clothing.

The brand's quirky and inventive designs were quickly admired and gained quite the celebrity following.

Juggling the life of a working mother with a hectic lifestyle, the pair created collections that consisted of high fashion pieces that fulfilled a woman's desire to be trendy, while remaining practical too. The label gained something of a cult status, receiving rave reviews in British and international media.

In 2004 the design duo received Elle Magazine's Designer of the Year award, reinforcing their status as a credible fashion brand. Sadie's and Jemima's designs have been snapped up by various well-known stores such as London's Selfridges and Barneys of New York.

Floozie by Frost French was launched in 2002 as part of the ever-expanding Designers at Debenhams range. Beginning as a line of lingerie, its popularity with customers has seen the collection expand to include swimwear and a bath and body range.

Each collection continues to epitomise FrostFrench's ethos of fun, glamour and femininity.

Jenny Packham Bio

Loved by stylish stars such as Taylor Swift, Angelina Jolie and the Duchess of Cambridge, Jenny Packham is an exciting addition to our Designers at Debenhams.

Primarily known for her bridal gowns and eveningwear, Jenny is a graduate of Central Saint Martins and, today, hugely represented on red carpets the world over.

Her ability to fuse elegance and glamour has made her a firm favourite in Hollywood, demonstrated by her involvement on films such as The Devil Wears Prada and Sex and the City - not to mention being the focus of TV series Gossip Girl, which dedicated an entire episode to a Jenny Packham show presentation in New York, modelled by the lead characters.

The Debenhams No.1 by Jenny Packham range is a must for occasionwear, with embellished maxi dresses and pretty prom styles reminiscent of the glamour golden-age Hollywood, ideal for summer weddings and winter soirees alike.

Betty Jackson Bio

With a career spanning almost 40 years, Betty Jackson has become one of Britain's most celebrated and much-loved designers.

Lancashire born, Betty studied design at the Birmingham College of Fashion, under the expert guidance of designer Zandra Rhodes, before setting up her own label, with husband David Cohen, in 1981.

With a flagship shop on the Brompton Road, London, Betty has been showing at London Fashion Week for over 20 years. In 1985, Betty was named 'British Designer of the Year', receiving countless accolades since, including 'Designer of the Year' for a second time in 1999. Betty was also involved in the TV Show 'Absolutely Fabulous' and created the notorious costumes for the lead characters, Eddy and Patsy.

Betty joined the Designers at Debenhams portfolio in 2005, launching the highly successful Betty Jackson.Black range. The collection incorporates womenswear, accessories, homeware and Betty Jackson.Black Beauty. Each range is perfect for women looking for Betty's unique style and effortless chic at an affordable price.

In 2007 Betty Jackson was honoured with a CBE. Betty continues to show at London Fashion Week, is a well-respected patron of British style and a popular, key player within our Designers at Debenhams.

Matthew Williamson Bio

Manchester born designer Matthew Williamson demonstrated his unwavering creative vision from the very beginning of his design career.

Aged 18, he embarked on a Fashion Design course at the world famous Central St. Martins College in London. Graduating in 1994, his career in fashion began freelancing for Marni, followed by a position designing at British high street store Monsoon.

Matthew's first own-collection debuted in 1997 at London Fashion Week, modelled by host of big names such as Kate Moss and Helena Christensen. Entitled 'Electric Angels', it was a unique and pioneering assortment of clothes that combined intricate beading and patterns with vibrant fabrics - a signature look that has come to define the Matthew Williamson brand.

Along with the cultivation of his own label, Matthew became creative director of Pucci in 2005, with his love of exuberant patterns and fabrics making him a perfect match for the company.

Matthew joined the list of Designers at Debenhams in 2002 with his hugely successful Butterfly by Matthew Williamson range. The collection extended from accessories and childrenswear into womenswear in 2009, followed by homeware in 2010.

With a celebrity following that includes Sienna Miller, Sarah Jessica Parker and Madonna, it is apparent that many share his love for colour - as do we at Debenhams.

Henry Holland Bio

Fashion designer and creator of the internationally infamous slogan tees, Henry Holland was born in Ramsbottom, Lancashire.

After graduating from London College of Printing with a BA in Journalism, he started producing his imaginative slogan tees in 2006, gaining a cult following of celebrities and fashionistas alike.

During London Fashion Week in 2006, as part of Fashion East, Henry - through his label House of Holland - presented a bona fide clothing collection entitled "One Trick Pony", to much acclaim.

Now boasting premium international stockists, House of Holland has earned its place as a serious fashion brand, with the famous slogan T-shirts still at the core of its identity.

In March 2010 Henry Holland was welcomed into the Debenhams fashion fold as one of our Designers at Debenhams, with the subsequent H! by Henry Holland collection seeking to translate the House of Holland brand to the high street.

Highly successful, the range consists of fashion pieces that carry Henry's signature bold prints and bright colours, as well as exclusive bags and accessories.

With an ever-rising profile, largely thanks to a huge celebrity fanbase that includes Nicola Roberts, Alexa Chung and Kelly Osbourne, Henry Holland is at the forefront of fashion - with the H! by Henry Holland line not too far behind.

Janet Reger Bio

Janet Reger, often dubbed the queen of luxury lingerie, has been a name affiliated with beautiful underwear for decades. In 2007 the brand celebrated its 40th birthday, continuing to confirm its status as the brand of choice for exquisite underwear.

Janet attended the Leicester College of Technology in 1953 - a time when underwear was simple in design and predominantly black or white in colour. Designing co-ordinated sets in silks and satins, Janet demonstrated her natural ability and flair to combine cut with cloth, line with fit and, most significantly, style with practicality.

In 1965, having spent time in Zurich working as a freelance designer, Janet, with her husband Peter and their young daughter Aliza, returned to London. Peter took samples of Janet's innovative designs to leading London department stores and orders began flooding in. and the Janet Reger line was born.

Synonymous with femininity, seduction, romance and glamour, the brand's arrival turned lingerie on its head with its innovative approach and paved the way for other designers in this arena. Celebrity fans included Joan Collins, Princess Margaret and Kylie Minogue.

For over ten years, the Janet Reger for Debenhams collection has offered stunning designs in luxurious fabrics at affordable prices.

Sadly, Janet passed away in 2005. Today, Janet's daughter Aliza continues Janet's legacy, carrying on the brand to bring elegant, glamorous underwear to Debenhams.

Pearce II Fionda Bio

Reynold Pearce and Andrew Fionda met at Nottingham Trent University in 1985, where they were both embarking on degrees in fashion.

After graduating, Reynold began working with John Galliano before completing a Masters degree at the prestigious Central St. Martins, while Andrew undertook a Masters at the Royal College of Art.

By 1994, after accumulating a wealth of experience, Reynold and Andrew felt ready to launch their own label, Pearce Fionda. Their first capsule collection was shown at the New Generation Show of London Fashion Week in 1995.

Pearce Fionda aims to provide luxurious womenswear with chic, modern designs for the day and sophisticated, elegant eveningwear. Attention to detail is a key aspect of their work, with particular emphasis on cut, silhouette and proportion.

The pair's combination of creativity, innovation and professionalism has secured them various awards including, among many others, the 'British Appeal Export' award for Best New Designer in 1994, the 'New Generation' award at the Lloyds Bank British Fashion Awards in 1995 and the British Glamour Designer of the Year award, from the British Fashion Council, in 1997.

Autumn 1997 brought the launch of Andrew and Reynold's diffusion line, Pearce II Fionda, to the Designers at Debenhams range, providing enchanting eveningwear at high street prices. With some individual twists added to the Debenhams range, Pearce II Fionda is an integral part of women's fashion, and particularly occasionwear, at Debenhams.

Jonathan Saunders Bio

Glasgow-born back in 1977, Jonathan attended the Glasgow School of Art before heading to London and a Masters at the iconic Central Saint Martins.

His stint at CSM saw Jonathan walk away with the Lancome Colour Award for his graduate collection that, with its brightly coloured kaftans, was a clear symbol of what was to come.

Within 24 hours of his showing the collection, Jonathan was commissioned to design prints for Alexander McQueen.

Today, Jonathan is famed for his use of boldly coloured prints, producing collections that exhibit a fresh energy with modern sex appeal. Notably, the majority of his prints are hand-drawn, with silk-screening techniques usually employed - the finished effect is the creation of unique and exquisite garments.

With celebrity fans such as Michelle Obama, Sienna Miller and Thandie Newton, Debenhams is excited to bring such vibrant creativity to Edition - and the Debenhams customer.

Jonathan says of his high-street venture; "It's exciting to be able to design for a new market. The goal was to create a collection that was simple, modern and wearable with a focus on clean cuts and fresh colour."

Preen Bio

Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi met when they were both eighteen and living on the Isle of Man.

Discovering a mutual appreciation for fashion, together they formed Preen, a brand that is today best known for its minimal designs that merge both a masculine and feminine aspect.

Launched in 1996, Justin and Thea - who are now husband and wife - began selling clothes that were inspired by Victoriana and punk rock. By 1997, a Preen shop opened on London's iconic Portobello Road.

Famed for its strong silhouettes with an effortless edge, smart modern mood and slouchy-futuristic elegance, Preen cemented its international status by opting to show in New York in 2007, returning to its London roots in 2012.

Preen boasts a sophisticated client base including Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, Kate Moss and Kirsten Dunst. In addition, the brand now has over seventy stockists worldwide plus a successful menswear and accessory collection which includes bags, belts, purses, scarves.

A fabulous inclusion in the Debenhams designer concept Edition, both designers are looking forward to making Preen brand more accessible.

"We have created a range for Debenhams that will offer contemporary style that is easy to wear and in keeping with the Preen handwriting. We thought about real women across all ages during the design process; so there will be something for everyone regardless of shape or age."

Iris & Edie Bio

Night and loungewear for all ages, Iris & Edie is the sister brand to Frost French, with which the art of design becomes a family affair.

Designed with the help of their daughters - and named after them too - Iris & Edie is a gorgeous collection of nightgowns and pyjamas, suitable for women of all ages.

Following on the signature playful, girlie style of Floozie, Iris & Edie consists of key pieces in a casual colour palette that can be worn as separates, or layered up.

Both teenagers had input into colours, patterns and prints for the range. Having both grown up with designer mothers, Sadie and Jemima claim their children have a keen eye for fashion - the result of which is Iris & Edie.

Eric Van Peterson has been designing fine jewellery for over 30 years. Working closely with his wife, the couple's signature style incorporates classic looks with modern graphics.

Marios Schwab Bio

The most recent addition to the Edition concept, Marios Schwab brings his contemporary style to Debenhams, designed to appeal to women who want contemporary style that makes a statement.

The designer certainly has the fashion credentials, having studied at the prestigious Esmod fashion school in Berlin, graduating with distinction and the 'Best Student' award.

In 2003 Marios moved to London to attend Central Saint Martins, where he worked towards a Masters in Womenswear, before launching his own label in 2005. After showing for two seasons at Fashion East, during which time he won the award for 'Best New Designer' at the British Fashion Awards in 2006, Marios made his London Fashion Week debut for spring/summer 2007.

So far in his career, the Marios Schwab line can boast multiple highlights, such as the 2008 collaboration with Swarovksi for Runway Rocks, which saw Marios design a one-off, crystallized statement design.

Known for his beautifully cut, modern silhouettes, the Greek-Austrian designer brings women gorgeous cuts and shapes that can be worn for daytime or evening. Known for his unique talent of understanding the contours of a woman's body, the Marios Schwab/Edition range taps into this, creating clothes that make women feel confident, special and individual.
