Volcanic Ash Exfoliator
Love this product!
Compelled to try this product after listening to beauty bloggers raving about it on YouTube! It really is different from any other exfoliator Ive tried before. It smells weirdly of curry and burnt sugar (in a good way!) and looks like ground charcoal suspended in a black gel. Applied to a cleansed, damp skin the product actually feels quite harsh, the exfoliating particles are large, and I found I had to massage extremely gently over my cheeks, but was able to have a good old scrub around my nose, chin and forehead where the skin is a bit tougher! The product rinsed off easily with warm water and my Elemis washcloth. Immediately afterwards my skin did feel quite tight but after applying moisturiser I was stunned by how smooth my skin felt, it was really amazingly soft. Im not sure how it would work out for anyone with a very sensitive skin, as the granules feel quite harsh. You would have to use it carefully at first I think. Anyway for me its a miracle product! I cant wait to use it again, and I will definitely be repeat buying this! Highly recommended!
Many good points
My skin is the type to benefit from a good, thorough scrub every once in awhile, and I am really glad to have found this exfoliator. What attracted me at first was the supposed purifying/disinfecting properties of volcanic ash. I wouldn't really categorise this product as gentle, and certainly not for daily use on my (normal/combination/sensitive) skin. To use this so often would be too harsh and strip the skin of its moisture and possibly rid yourself of several layers of epidermis, leaving your skin paper-thin and unprotected.
I tend to cleanse my skin beforehand. The product goes on a grainy dark charcoal colour with some microglitter, then as you begin working it in small circles, it starts lathering up and quickly turning light grey. Washes off easily. I use this with a facial brush. The mechanical stimulation, coupled with sugar crystals, effectively increases circulation to the face which brightens up your skin. Leaves skin smooth. With a little elbow grease, it also manages to get rid of a lot of those pesky blackheads and trapped dirt and oil in your pores. Does not exacerbate my spots.
If only there was more of the product, considering it is for face and body.
