Duck down 13 tog all seasons duvet (9 & 4.5 tog)
A warm and light Duvet. Although smell & quality control issues.
The first duvet we purchased had to be returned as a pocket had not been stitched so down was coming out of the duvet. Be aware as well of the strong smell of the duck down.
I received this as a present and was really excited about it and even bought new bed linen to go with it. That was until I opened it and used it. It is really quite smelly! I've had feather duvets before and don't remember them being smelly at all. But with this one - my boyfriend couldn't sleep because it was so bad. We had to put the old one back on the bed for now - good job we hadn't thrown it out yet! I'm seriously considering either taking it to be dry-cleaned, or just taking it back to the store. So it has turned out to be a very expensive and thoughtful, but a completely useless gift. Shame :(
I returned this item as the stitiching and finish was of poor quality
The stitching on the item was poor. There was no piping around the edge. The whole item compared with one that a friend had purchased elsewhere for a similar sale price was very low.
Dodgy stitching on the tog 4.5 duvet
This item was purchased in November 2013. After noting what a previous reviewer had alerted to regarding the stitching on the 4.5 tog duvet - I held it up to the light and you can see that what should be stitched in complete square pockets, are in fact unfinished so that I suppose with time and use the down/feathers may shift across into other pockets therefore making it uneven. Other than that the quality looks to be very good. The 9.5 tog duvet was correctly stitched. If Debenhams sorted this issue out it would be a brilliant product.
I haven't decided whether to take it back or just see how it goes as I suspect it will be the same issue with any replacement, and for the price (20% discount + 10% off coupon) it was a pretty good deal compared to many other high street down/feather duvets (this one is 90% down/ 10% feather).
Have a good look at the stitching on the 4.5 tog!
I bought this product at the Leeds White Rose Centre Debenhams in Autumn 2013. The duvet is very warm and the quality of the filling and materials is very good.
Unfortunately after 2 months I noticed that the panel stitching on the 4.5tog duvet has not been finished properly and was coming undone, and the filling can move to different areas of the duvet.
I took my original purchase back and got a replacement with absolutely no quibbling or problems from Debenhams (I have no complaints about Debenhams, the service was very good), but the new duvet has exactly the same fault - the 9 tog is properly stitched and the 4.5 tog isn't. I'm guessing that there's a batch out there with problem stitching.
I got such a good deal (minus 20% Blue Cross Sale, minus 10% internet discount), and the product is so good otherwise, that I'll probably sort it myself, but if you're buying this expensive product I'd advise you to have a good look at the stitching on the 4.5tog before you throw the receipt away.
supremely light, very warm
This is the best duvet I have ever bought. It is very very light and very warm. fits all seasons and the design is such that the duck down stays in place. it can even be tumble dried. it does smell a little bit initially but i aired it a bit and the smell pretty much went away. it is a pricey item but I think it is worth it. highly recommended.
Needn't have worried
After about two weeks of physically looking and then searching on line and exhausting many websites, I decided to go with a store I was familiar with
and a name known. I had read so many reviews of different duvets and my main priority was the finish, weight (wanted light-weight as hated to feel
a load of clothes on top of me) and warmth. On reviewing this product, and there were some issues a little concerned about like seeming, noise crackle and smell, I was so tired or looking that I took a chance on this item.
It arrived in only two days from ordering, well packed and everything about
it was first class, apart from one tiny thing but so insignificant that I didnt give it a second thought - on one of the duvets, there was a fragment of loose cotton hanging.
Regarding the smell, I threw over a clothes airer and sprayed with a fabric febreeze spray and turned and sprayed for two days. I am so delighted
with this item. No more heavy duvets. Total warmth in fact despite the
really cold spell we have just experienced, haven't needed to add the lighter
duvet, as yet. Thoroughly recommend product. Thinking of buying a doubnle one now for my son's bed when he comes to visit.
1st night under this dream cloud was magnificent! Now looking forward to my 2nd!! A beautiful duvet, warm & snuggly whilst being extremely light. The only downer was in putting the 2 duvets together ~ who on earth thought that buttons, with too small buttonholes was a good plan? These arthritic hands took 45 minutes with a quick-unpick to enlarge the holes sufficiently to perform the task! Really annoying as I was eager to get the task done! What is wrong with good old poppers? Spoiled the fun a tad, but the perfect night's sleep kind of made up for it!
