I already have a braun silk epil epilator so was excited to try this braun silk epil ladyshaver for free from braun. My epilator is really awkward to use as it has a cable and I don't have a socket in my bathroom so I have to run an extension cable & adaptor into my bathroom! So the fact that the braun lady shaver LS5100 is battery powered is a big plus, I can just use rechargeable batteries & there are no issues with cables/adaptors or waiting for it to charge. The shaver actually comes with batteries ready to use so you can use them straight away.
The shaver is quite elongated which makes it easy to hold. It comes with an optishave attachment which is supposed to give a closer shave.
I first tried using it on my legs, I usually epilate but occasionally shave either using a regular razor or the shaver head on my epilator. I started using the optishave attachment but it didn't seem to be shaving closely at all so I removed it & that actually seemed to work better. The instructions say to hold the skin taught which I did but it still didn't really give a very close shave, I also had to press into my skin really hard with the optishave & regular attachment & it took a long longer than I was expecting since I had to keep going over each area. However it manoeuvred around my leg (knee & back of my knee) easily. It's also quite quiet, much quieter than other epilators/shavers I have used. One of the biggest negatives was that despite the instructions saying it was safer to skin, I ended up with a cut on my ankle. Also it really doesn't give a close shave, I don't know if I would be happy shaving with this then baring my legs in a skirt, it would probably do in a pinch if I was going swimming or my legs were driving me mad & I wanted to remove the hair quicker than my epilator.
- Battery powered
- Easy to hold
- Manoeuvres around knee easily
- Doesn't give close shave
- Can cut skin if not pulled taught, which is difficult on some areas such as ankles
- Takes a long time [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Rated 3 out of 5Â by Buttonface Easy to use but not close enough shave
The second time I used braun ladyshaver LS5100 I tried using the bikini attachment. Personally for me it cuts the hair quite long so I removed the attachment & just used the usual head. The lack of cable makes it much easier to use on the bikini area which is a plus, my epilator needs to be plugged in while using which is why I was so happy to receive this lady shaver for free from braun. The head & shape of the shaver seem like they are more designed to be used on the legs than bikini area as the 'handle' is a bit long. The other issues I had were similar to when I used it on my legs, it doesn't give a close shave no matter how much I pulled the skin taught, the shaver attachment on my epilator is much closer. Also I cut myself as I did on my legs. As a positive it is quiet, it's also reasonably priced! I think I will use this when I don't want to plug in my epilator for touch ups but it's just not a close enough shave to replace my current model.
- No cable/battery powered - a very big plus
- Well priced
- Bikini attachment cuts hair very long- not sure what the purpose of this is
- Longer handle & shape of head more difficult to use on bikini area & probably underarms
- Doesn't give a close shave
- Easy to cut skin [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Having received this shaver free form Braun I was rather excited as I've not owned a shaver for a while . Unfortunately I remember why although the shave does not take long and is a close shave it does not last long ! I've gone from shaving my legs every few days to needing to do them every other day due to the hair growth ! Don't get me wrong the shave is fab I just don't have the time to worry about shaving that often ! The bikini line attachment is ok but I used it without as I prefer a closer shave ! I was excited to try the Braun Lady Shaver LS5100 as I have tried electric shavers before and have always reverted back to a normal razor but when Braun sent me this to test for free, I was ready to give it another go. I am actually really pleased with this product, I've been using it for a few weeks and have found it quick and easy to use. It's especially handy if you decide to wear a dress or shorts at the last minute and realise you haven't shaved your legs! The attachment allows a great angle for shaving and results in a reasonably close shave. I think if I were going out on a big night out I would still use a razor, but this is great for leaving my legs feeling smooth in a hurry. The one thing that I would say stopped me giving it the full five stars is the fact that the battery cover doesn't come off very easily, in fact, I thought I had broken it at first the amount of effort it took to get off. This is a great wee shaver and I would recommend it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

When my free sample Braun Lady Shaver LS5100 arrived in the post I was quite excited. Traditionally I'm used to a close shave using a razor and gel but was eager to try this.
The packaging is nice, great that batteries come in the box so you can use it straight away. Also in the box are two pink attachments and a cleaning brush. The box also shows that you can wash the head under the tap for easy cleaning. The battery compartment is also nicely marked so no putting batteries in and having to change them round until it works!
So I tried this on my legs first. It took a few attempts and I had to press quite hard to get a good shave. The head does push in and angle so that going over bony knees was fine and I didn't find it painful. Not as close a shave as a razor and gel but not too bad.
Then I tried an underarm, turned the switch under the head from legs to underarms and started, what a mistake! First go and ow!! It really pulled, so I tried again pulling the skin tight and gently moving the Shaver but again it really pinched. Not one for painful underarms I relegated it to the box and used my trusty razor instead.
Overall, if you need a quick tidy up or suddenly decide to wear a dress but don't have time to get through the shower and shave with gel, this will do the trick, but don't expect as close a shave. I won't be changing my routine but will be useful to have this incase of hair emergencies ;) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I was anticipating the arrival of my Braun Lady Shaver, smooth shiny legs just like on the telly!
I opened the box, it looked like a sleek little gadget, easy to read instructions and off I went to mow down the stubble....
However, this is where my excitement ended, it took about 20 minutes to shave one leg, not because I have legs like a gorilla, because it didn't get 'close' enough. I persevered with the other leg, ran my hand down my shin, a promptly trotted off to the shower to use a real razor.
Overall, not worth the time or effort! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

In my earlier review of the Braun Ladyshaver which I got for free I said that the product was ok if you are in a rush but that the skin smoothness of a wet shave or wax were lacking.
I stand by that opinion, if it's date night and you've got a spare 20-30 minutes to de-hair, exfoliate and moisturise then this product just won't be able to compete. If however, you've woken up a bit late and need to get the baby to nursery and yourself to work and have got visibly stubbly underarms and legs (we've all been there), then this is the product for you. It's quick and easy to use and because it's Braun you can be sure it's reliable.
So while this shaver won't replace all the razors, hair removal creams and waxes in your bathroom cabinet it definitely adds another string to your defuzzing bow! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Ive never used an electric shaver before, so I was excited to try the Braun Lady Shaver. My first impression was smart packaging, I liked the name Silk-epil- to be honest I originally thought it was an epilator because of the name.
I like the colour scheme, pink and purple, very girly!
I like that it comes with its own batteries and a brush to clean it with, it also contains two attachments - one for bikini line and one called optishave which is designed to make the shave more comfortable, they are in a matching purple colour.
Using the lady shaver was really simple. Just pop the batteries in, turn on and go.
Im used to a really close shave as I shave my legs in the shower or I use hair removal cream. The lady shaver did not give me the close shave that I am used to. I had to press quite hard on my skin and go over the same area of my legs to get it as close as I wanted - but it still feels a bit stubbly so I will have to go over it with a razor. For this reason I wouldn't recommend this product for your legs. Also because I used it on dry skin before I had a shower, it is more messy than I am used to, than just shaving in the shower or rinsing in shower cream away.
What I liked about the lady shaver is that for bikini line this is quite good, with razors and creams you can get a rash when the hair grows back -but as this trims the hair above the skin line, therefore I think the lady shaver is a much better option for bikini lines.
