Tensions rise when Meleager awards the boars hide to Atalanta, provoking his uncles, Toxeus and Plexippus, who attempt to take it from her. In the ensuing conflict, Meleager kills them, leading Althaea to a tragic decision. In her grief and rage, she burns the brand, fulfilling the prophecy and causing Meleagers death. The play explores the inexorable nature of fate, the destructive power of love and anger, and the tragic consequences of human actions.
