HORSETAIL RUSH - Equisetum fluviatile, commonly known as Horsetail Rush or Swamp Horsetail is an upright growing rhizomatous perennial pond plant that has a clump-forming habit. It produces mostly hollow green stems between 2 and 10mm thick, and can reach heights of between 40-60 cm. Each stem features yellow-brown banding and has between 10 and 30 very fine shallow grooves along the outside, with thin branches emerging around the stem nodes. At the tip of fertile stems, blunt spore bearing cones are produced, which can measure between 1 to 1.5cm long. POND PLANT - Horsetail Rush grows best in full sun to partial shade in moist to wet soils. It thrives in consistently moist garden soil in an exposed or sheltered area but can also be planted in standing water 90cm deep. It is ideal for growing at the edge of a pond or water garden, in boggy areas or in shallow water. UK HARDY - This plant is UK hardy and requires little maintenance. Trim just above the water surface after the foliage has died back in Autumn. It is important to leave a little material to protect new shoots or leave trimming to the Spring when it is actively growing. CARBETH PLANTS - We are a Scottish based company with over 20 years experience in horticulture. With a large variety of plants for the garden, indoors and also gift wrapped for special occasions. We pride ourselves on prompt delivery as well as our quality and affordable plants.
Pond Plant Care Guide Pond plants enhance beauty and maintain balance in aquatic ecosystems. They can be: Floating: Like water lilies, helping control algae. Emergent: Such as reeds, providing habitat for wildlife. Submerged: Like elodea, oxygenating the water. Marginal: Plants at the pond’s edge, like irises. Care Tips Sunlight: Ensure 4-6 hours of daily light. Water quality: Keep pH between 6.5-7.5. Substrate: Use pond-specific soil or gravel. Oxygenation: Add aerators or oxygenating plants. Algae control: Introduce floating plants or algae-eating fish. Maintenance: Trim dead leaves and remove invasive species.
