Description

This collection of short stories, The False Houses, offers us richly varied glimpses into a fascinating life. Moving between two continents, the author guides us through the streets of Buenos Aires, Paris, Berlin and London, her concise narratives ranging from the humorous to the disturbing. Friend to some of the great literary figures of her day (including Paul Celan, Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortazar and Gunter Grass), Edith Aron peppers her tales with unique observations of life in these diverse cultures. Edith Aron was born in Homburg Saar in 1923. After growing up in Buenos Aires from the age of eleven, where she attended the Pestalozzi Schule, she returned to Europe, spending many years living and working in Paris and Berlin she now lives in London. She was one of the first to translate the works of many South American writers, including Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortazar, Adolfo Bioy Casares, Silvina Ocampo and Octavio Paz, into German. Some of her original stories were published in two volumes, Die Zeit in den Koffern Time in a Suitcases and Die Falschen Huser The False Houses as well as in many major literary magazines. Her stories have also appeared in Spanish, published under the title 55 Rayuelas. Edith Aron writes with clarity, transparence and the finely attuned language that one finds only in reallygood novels. Neue Deutsche Hefte
