Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is highly prized and sought after by nations and their governments around the world. Attracting foreign companies to establish a presence and activity in an alternative location to their domestic one can reflect positively on the economic policies, skills and competitiveness of the host country. FDI can also bring immediate impacts on job creation, tax income, productivity gains and technology transfer to the recipient nation. The author has worked for international organisations, governments and private companies around the world advising on FDI during a 40 year career. In this lively and captivating book peppered with real examples, case studies and anecdotes, he lifts the lid on an industry which can seem opaque and complex to the outsider. The policies to pursue FDI deals, the means to attract them, the motives for the corporate location decision and the impact on the host communities are not always what they seem, and this expose is an entertaining and enlightening journey from an insiders view.
