Rosehips have a long history of use in Europe. Early Christians crafted the first rosary beads from rosehips. Viking invaders used rosehips as a source of vitamin C to stay healthy during their voyages. During World War II, British schoolchildren collected rosehips from hedgerows to make rosehip syrup, which provided vitamin C that was hard to obtain due to the German U-boat blockade.Even today, rosehips are an important part of traditional Scandinavian cuisine, included in soups, creams, and marmalades. There are many rosehip species, including R. pouzinii, R. corymbifera, R. glauca, and R. canina. Each contains different amounts of phenols, polyphenols, and ascorbic acid, with R. canina having the highest concentration.At Nature's Aid, our rosehip capsules use concentrated extract from Rosa canina rosehips. Each vegan-friendly capsule has 187.5mg of concentrated rosehip extract, equivalent to 750mg of dried rosehip fruit. The capsules are also lactose-, wheat-, and gluten-free.
