On a cold and wet September day in 1970, a fifteenyearold boy from the South Wales valleys said goodbye to his parents at Newport railway station. He was embarking on a journey that would last two years. He was joining the British Army as a Boy Soldier at Bramcote, Nuneaton, the home of The Junior Leaders Regiment Royal Artillery. Starting his journey as a raw recruit working his way through the system to leave as a Mustered Gunner and also winning the right to proudly wear the famous Green Beret of the Commandos.
