Thank you, Mum

Hear our stories and celebrate Mother's Day with us

This Mother's Day, we're saying thank you. We've brought families together from our head office and beyond to tell us why they're celebrating Mother's Day and what they're thankful for.

Top gifts for Mum

Our Head of PR, Hayley, is part of our three generations of love. Here's one reason she's grateful to her mum, Ros.

In this day and age, it's really hard to do a job you love and be a parent. Mum looks after Saul two days a week; I come home and she always says the same thing: 'He's been such a good boy!', but I know he's been naughty! I'm just so thankful for all her help.

-

What's the best piece of advice her mum has given her?

To go with your gut instinct. I think that's served me really well with my career and relationships.

-

What's the best thing about being a mum?

Ros: For me, producing two beautiful children - the relationship is so special. I have four grandchildren who I adore; I didn't expect to have the same love for them as I do for my own children, and that just touches my heart.

Simon is part of our creative team at Debenhams, and is joined by his lovely mum, Sue. Here's how they describe their relationship.

Simon: We're very close. She's always been there for me, especially now Dad's no longer with us - she's the rock of the family.

-

Sue, describe your perfect Mother's Day.

Sue: Spending it with all the family, having everyone together.

Simon: And then getting drunk!

-

Have you inherited anything from your mum, Simon?

Simon: Yes, she's a shopaholic and so am I.

Sue: Exactly - no wonder he's in the retail trade!

Donna is our Senior Photography Manager at Debenhams - she lives in London with her husband, daughters Ava and Cara, and their dog Betty. What does being a mum mean to Donna?

Contentment, I think. I didn't think I was going to have kids and they've been the best things to ever happen to me. I feel fulfilment and happiness, and so much love. Coming home from work and having these two running up and giving me the biggest hug and smiles is just the best thing.

-

How would Cara and Ava describe their mum?

Kind, helpful, and amazing!

-

Anushka is also part of our creative team and is celebrating her first Mother's Day after welcoming baby Arya into the world late last year. Here's what Anushka is excited for:

My first Mother's Day will be amazing - I'm spending it with my baby and I'm looking forward to all those special moments and making all those memories.

-

What's the best thing about being a mum?

It's getting to spend each and every day with Arya - seeing her grow, seeing her become such a lovely, cheeky little girl. She's my first baby and she means everything to me.

-

Francesca is a freelance photographer and full-time mum - she lives with her husband Sean and two sons, Lucas and Freddie. How would the boys describe her?

Lucas: Funny and beautiful.

-

What does being a mum mean to Francesca?

It's about loving and caring for your little people. It's one of those things that's really stressful but makes you feel so, so happy at the same time. It's the only job in the world where you'll wake up in the morning and want to do it all over again.

-

And the best thing about being a mum?

I think watching them grow is the most rewarding part - just seeing the different stages they're at and seeing them turn into real little characters themselves.

Debbi works in our Llandudno store, and is spending the day with her daughter, Thea. What does being a mum mean to Debbi?

It means everything to me - we had IVF to have Thea so it's really special. It's all I've ever dreamt of really. It can be such a long, hard journey to become a mother and it has meant the world to me - she's just perfect.
