Bodycare taken a back seat through the winter months? Us too – but there’s no need to worry! Whether you’re staying at home or flying across the globe this summer, we’ve put together the perfect bodycare routine to get you bikini-ready just in time for the sunshine – plus the best products to help you get there…
We’re sure this comes as no surprise. Every effective routine starts with a good old-fashioned cleanse – and your body should be no different. Kickstart your first step with a deliciously-scented shower gel that helps to dissolve daily dirt and grime. The result? Squeaky clean yet comfortable skin that’s perfectly prepped for the next step in your regime.
Now you’ve got the first step down, it’s time to move onto your second. Exfoliating is the easiest way to do away with those skin-dulling impurities that linger on the surface. Not only that, but exfoliation can help to minimise the look (and risk) of strawberry skin – which can manifest itself as small, coarse bumps on the backs of the arms, or even redness from clogged follicles on your legs.
Find your favourite exfoliator and start in slow, gentle circles from the chest, all the way down to your feet. By removing the top layer of dead skin, you’re not only reducing the chances of ingrown hairs, but also giving your products an open pathway to better absorb the goodness in your bodycare.
Summer is the season where our shaving routines shift from basically non-existent to top of our To Do list. Legs, armpits, and bikini lines are the most common spots many prefer to be free from hair, but it’s important to pick the right product to avoid pesky razor burns, ingrown hairs, or clogged follicles.
Shaving gels should be your new summer BFF, promoting a smoother, more seamless glide from your preferred razor. Our top tip? Men’s razors are specially equipped to minimise the risk of cutting the delicate skin on the face – which means they’re made for a comfort-first, silky-smooth finish.
We also recommend shaving in the direction of your hair growth, rather than opposite, but we know that one’s easier said than executed.
Come rain or shine, our skin is always thankful for a little extra moisture. If you’re hoping to tan, or you love the feeling of silky-soft, even-textured skin, moisturising is a must. Make sure your skin is clean and dry (which it should be already, if you’ve been following our step-by-step guide up to now), and then smooth your preferred body lotion, butter or cream directly over your skin.
Pay close attention to the ingredients in your body cream – anything with ceramides, shea & cocoa butters, and hyaluronic acid are perfect for keeping your barrier in-tact while hydrating and nourishing the feel of coarse, dry skin, leaving you supple and velvety-soft from the neck down.
If you haven’t heard of the damaging effects of the sun by now, you really shouldn’t skip this section. SPF is the new non-negotiable in summer routines, offering broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays to help keep skin shielded against the risk of burning, ageing, and even skin cancer.
If you’re heading out and the UV is high, it’s important to make sure your sun protection factor game is stronger than ever. We recommend a minimum of SPF30 (but SPF50 is even better!). And before you ask – yes, you can still get a tan when wearing sun protection.
SPF gives enough of a glow on its own, but if you want to take your radiance one step further, you need either a liquid illuminator or a sensorial self-tan in your collection. The perfect finishing touch to any bodycare regime, liquid body illuminators are a time-pressed person’s dream, making it quick, easy and effortless to lay down a luminous bronze tone that can be washed off at the end of the day.
We love Bare by Vogue and bBold Body Glow – but make sure to wash your hands before touching your clothes post-application! For tan, you can use your favourite, but if you really want to elevate your bronze, you need Rose & Caramel. Trust us…
