We spoke with Dr Anita Sturnham, who shared top tips for a simple and effective everyday skincare routine, as well as the inspiration behind her revolutionary, science-backed skincare brand, Decree.

What motivated you to create Decree?

Over years of seeing patients and assessing their skin routines, I noticed that the majority of skin issues were caused by people using the wrong products on their skin, without a proper routine or consistency.

This inspired me to create a solution - I wanted to design a range that simplified people's skincare routines and cut through the cluttered and confusing skincare space. And so, Decree was born, a smart, gender-neutral skincare system which provides everything your skin needs, through multitasking formulas.

Our products are suitable for everyone regardless of your age, sex, skin type or skin concern, and most importantly they’re easy to use - each is designed to give you the correct dose needed, so no underdoing or overdoing things.

How has your background in dermatology influenced the development of Decree’s range?

From my background in Dermatology and skincare formulating, I’ve discovered that the products that people use on their skin play a major role in skin health. With 20 years of research into my patient’s daily skincare routines, I began to identify trends such as people over exfoliating and stripping their skin barrier or changing their products too frequently. This time dedicated to analysing routines helped me to understand what influences a person's decision making - whilst a good ingredient list matters, other factors such as the packaging, texture, smells and how it applies underneath makeup were also apparent. Based on this, I combined the clinically efficacious formulations that I knew worked well on all skin types, with luxurious sensorial touch points that I knew mattered to people, and we created a clinically developed skincare line, that’s suitable for everyone.

How important is consistency in your skincare regime?

.

When it comes to having healthy skin, my philosophy is that less is more. Skin loves consistency so if you find a product your skin likes, stick to it. The majority of skin issues that I see are self-inflicted, using the wrong products constantly chopping and changing products, as well as over exfoliating their skin. All these factors can send skin into meltdown. My first step to helping people improve their skin is to declutter their products and get them on a simple and structured routine that they can enjoy and use consistently morning and evening.
