The hard work paid off for England in their first game of 2026, reigning victorious with a nail-biting 4-2 win against Croatia.
A retaken penalty allowed Harry Kane to score the first goal in the 12th minute, followed by an equaliser from Croatia’s Martin Baturina just after the newly introduced Hydration Break.
Moments before half time, Harry Kane slipped the ball past Croatian defenders for his second goal of the game, but the team relaxed a little too much, leaving the net open for Croatia’s Petar Musa to equalise just twenty seconds before the end of the first half.
Last weekend marked a disappointing defeat for Scotland in their 2nd group game against Morocco. In less than two minutes after kick-off, Scottish defenders failed to keep the ball away from the danger zone, making it easy for Ismael Saibari to score against keeper Angus Gunn. Scotland’s attempt to equalise before half time was valiant, but John McGinn struck the ball awkwardly, missing the goal. The game resulted in a 1-0 victory for Morocco, with Scotland’s final group game against Brazil to take place Wednesday 24th June.
England’s women’s team reigned victorious in Saturday’s match, beating Scotland by 38 runs. As the semi-final spot looms ever closer, England earned an impressive 200-5 post, with Ecclestone taking two for seven, Gibson hitting a remarkable six, and Kemp removing Scotland’s Chatterji with an iconic return catch. We know getting our hopes up might be a little premature, but England’s women’s cricketers seem to be paving the way just right, with their next game against West Indies commencing this Wednesday, 24th June.
New Zealand valiantly defended their title in Friday’s match, executing a four-run win over Ireland. New Zealand's captain, Kane Williamson, cemented the team’s win with an important half-century (50+ runs), helping his team reach a strong total. Despite Ireland’s bowler, Josh Little, taking a hat-trick that saw three batters out with three consecutive balls, New Zealand had already built enough momentum, and Ireland's batting couldn't match the required scoring rate, leaving the final score as New Zealand 140/6 – 136/4 Ireland
