It’s the second week of our Summer of Sport, and the games are officially in full swing. Read on for everything you need to know from the last 7 days – whether you’re looking to relive England’s win against Panama, Scotland’s fatal defeat against Morocco, or the record-breaking successes of England’s women’s cricket team.
England’s second game might not be the result we wanted, but it wasn’t all bad for the Three Lions, drawing 0-0 with Ghana in Tuesday’s late-night match. England held 79.8% possession for the game in its entirety, but Ghana’s defending was on-point from start to finish, making it difficult for the team to breakthrough.
Chances for an England victory materialised throughout the game, thanks to three corners taken back-to-back by Declan Rice during the extra time of the second half. Nico O’Reilly’s kick collided with the crossbar, finding Harry Kane who sent the ball flying above the goal, culminating in a 0-0 result for both teams.
It was a tough match for Scotland on 24th June, suffering an agonising 3-0 defeat against Brazil. Vinícius Júnior facilitated an early lead in the 7th minute, assisted by Brazil’s Rayan, who used a hesitation error from Scotland defender Scott Mckenna to the team’s advantage.
England’s women’s cricket team have reached the semi finals following their 186-7 victory against the West Indies, Wednesday 24th June. Despite six dropped catches, England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge scored 65 at the top of the order, followed by Heather Knight’s 43 from 26 balls, catapulting them to seize the win. Wyatt-Hodge was also named player of the match for the second time so far this tournament.
At the end of day 4, England fall behind New Zealand in the women’s cricket tournament, needing a further 270 runs to win the game.
