Her mother comes to the outback from a tiny faraway town and her father finds himself in a dark depression after she is born but together, they visit Uluru where they are schooled in Aboriginal history. There is a gentle history lesson in this story, about the legacies of white colonisation weaved throughout, by an Aboriginal girl, Irene, whose life is entwined with Becs. We fast forward to Bec, now 70 years old, after she has outlived her husband and her closest friends. Bec enlightens readers about the fate of each character from her life...
