First published as "An Adventure with a Dog and a Glacier" in 1897 in "The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine" and then expanded into a book and published in 1909, "Stickeen" by American naturalist John Muir is one of literatures most enduring dog stories. Based on a trip he took to Alaska in 1880 with a dog Stickeen and their trek out on a glacier, this short memoir is one of Muirs bestknown publications whose enduring appeal has resulted in numerous adaptations and retellings. This thrilling and heartwarming tale follows Muir as he sets out to explore a glacier with the small dog belonging to a friend, who insists on following along. Muir and his unlikely companion face enormous obstacles and challenging conditions in their quest to survive the glacier and return to civilization. The relationship between the author and Stickeen is reserved and cautious at first, but becomes warm and loving as the two survive impossible odds together. This timeless classic is a mustread for everyone who enjoys tales of dogs, adventure, the great outdoors, and stories of amazing courage. This edition is printed on premium acidfree paper.
