It is a powerful agent in combating infections caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi, such as tetanus (bacteria), influenza (virus), and infectious diseases like cholera and typhoid. This oil is also highly effective in repelling insects. Its insecticidal properties are potent enough that a diluted solution can be sprayed or vaporized with a vaporizer to drive away mosquitoes, ants, and other pests. A diluted solution can also be applied to the skin to keep insects at bay. Similar to eucalyptus oil, cajeput oil acts as both a decongestant and an expectorant. It provides immediate relief from congestion in the nose, throat, and other respiratory organs, as well as from coughs and throat inflammation caused by infections. Its analgesic properties help reduce pain, making it effective for relieving toothaches when applied directly to the affected area, or for headaches when applied to the forehead. Always use highly diluted solutions for topical application.
