Known for its excellent calming qualities, it helps ease irritation, impatience, and supports PMS, menstrual, and menopausal discomfort. The plant is an evergreen with a fresh apple-like scent and is mainly grown in France, Belgium, and Eastern Europe. Roman chamomile is highly valued for skin care, helping with acne, eczema, rashes, wounds, dermatitis, dry or itchy skin, and allergies. It is also believed to relieve abdominal pain, gall bladder problems, throat infections, hay fever, and asthma. When properly diluted, it can calm children dealing with colic, irritability, diarrhea, and teething. Used in a vaporizer, it may ease headaches, nervous tension, and migraines. Although gentle enough for children and babies, expert guidance is always advised. Chamomile has been used medicinally for thousands of years by Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. The Egyptians dedicated the plant to the sun god, and a papyrus dating back to 2800 BC records its use for treating skin disorders. Chamomile oil was even used in embalming. Hippocrates, the Greek physician, reportedly recommended it for various ailments.
