Renowned for its refreshing and energizing qualities, it is said to combat fatigue and revive both body and mind. It is also used as a natural method to help keep pets free of fleas and ticks. Rich in citral, the same compound found in lemon peel, lemongrass oil carries a strong citrus aroma. It is believed to ease jet lag, headaches, nervous exhaustion, and stress, while stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system to support faster recovery from illness and encourage glandular secretions. Lemongrass oil is known to tone muscles and tissues, offering relief from muscle pain, and is also used for sore throat, laryngitis, and fever, helping prevent the spread of infections. It supports digestion and may benefit conditions such as colitis, indigestion, and gastroenteritis. Its cleansing nature makes it useful for clearing oily skin and reducing excessive perspiration. However, it can irritate sensitive skin and should be used with caution. It is not recommended during pregnancy. Lemongrass is a perennial aromatic grass native to India, where it is called choomana poolu.
