Latin Name: Citrus aurantium | Part Used: Flowers | Source: Tunisia | Extraction: Water/Steam Distillation. Neroli Essential Oil is derived from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium var. amara), also known as Neroli bigarade. Its aroma is sweet, floral and fresh, similar to bergamot. The delicate flowers are hand-picked and gently distilled as they cannot withstand high-pressure steam. This precious oil is cherished for its fragrance and soothing benefits. Traditionally, Neroli is used to ease stress, anxiety, shock, depression and emotional tension. It may support restful sleep, calm palpitations, neuralgia, dizziness and aid recovery when diffused in a room. It is also believed to help digestive discomfort such as spasms, colitis and diarrhea. On the skin, Neroli oil is valued for promoting cell regeneration, improving texture, reducing scars, stretch marks and broken capillaries. Its history dates back to ancient times and is believed to have been used by the Romans. The name "Neroli" comes from Princess Anna Maria of Nerola, who popularized bitter orange blossom oil in 17th century perfumes. Orange blossoms were also placed on bridal beds as a symbol of calm and purity. Production is labor-intensive as blossoms must be harvested at the perfect bloom stage.
