In early times, the leaves were infused to make tea, which led to the name "Tea Tree." The oil is rich in terpenoids, compounds known for their antiseptic and antifungal properties, making it a key ingredient in many personal care products and medicines today. Tea tree oil is known for its potential benefits in relieving congestion, cold, cough, and flu symptoms. It has also been used to treat acne, fungal infections, dandruff, vaginal infections, hemorrhoids, athlete's foot, and to soothe aching muscles and joint injuries. When added to bath water, it helps control bacteria. This oil is not for internal use and should be used cautiously. It is generally safe for adults but should be kept away from children and pets. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy or lactation. The medicinal properties of the tea tree have been recognized for centuries in eastern Australia, where indigenous people used crushed leaves to treat cuts, burns, and infections.
