Jane Croyland and her husband Robert have recently moved from the city into their dream cottage on the edge of Dartmoor, where they plan to pursue their successful careers, he as an architect, she as a freelance art lecturer. But the cottage has a history and as they settle into their new and idyllic existence Jane experiences unnerving sightings which force her with the help of their recently acquired friend Paul the troubled young village vicar to embark on research into what happened in this place four hundred years ago.
