Dianthus barbatus 'Raspberry' (Sweet William) Often grown as an annual but naturally a short-lived perennial, this reliable Sweet William produces rounded clusters of velvety, finely fringed, deep raspberry-red blooms above tidy, upright green foliage. Its sweetly scented flowers attract pollinators and make long-lasting cut flower displays. Compact and upright, it adds strong colour to border fronts, patio containers, and cottage gardens without taking up much space. Planting & Care Instructions Location: Full sun, open position with good air circulation. Soil & Pots: Neutral to alkaline, well-drained soil. For containers, mix peat-free multi-purpose compost with grit. Avoid waterlogged ground. Watering & Feeding: Water during dry spells. Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks through the growing season. Maintenance: Mulch border settings to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Protect young plants over winter with light mulch or fleece in colder regions. Harvesting & Deadheading: Cut blooms regularly for vases to encourage new stems, or deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming.
