Several disturbing dreams cause Arthur Blake to wonder whether he is trying to do too much for the many people who seek his services. The sudden disappearance of a young associate provides another mystery and leads to questions of life after death and reincarnation. Events that initially appear simple become increasingly complex as the true natures of many people come into question.
