Originally, the Jatropha Podagrica comes from the tropical areas of Central-America. They can grow with impressive thick trunks and large leaves! Fortunately, they do not grow that large indoors. However, even small and young plants can grow leaves larger than your hand. Furthermore, the Jatropha flowers beautiful red flowers during the summer, with a flowering period of 20 weeks! Its nickname is also the Buddha Belly plant, due to its unique shape.
This succulent needs little care, only in the summer months when the plant flowers it needs a little more water. The plant likes a light position, just avoid the bright midday sun. Let the potting soil dry well between waterings. In winter, the plant needs almost no water and the soil should be kept well dry. Beware, the plant is poisonous. Furthermore, the leaves turn yellow in winter, to form new leaves from February.
