The Rubber plant, in Latin the Ficus Elastica Tineke, is a strong air-purifying plant that can withstand many conditions. For example, the Ficus can live well in partial shade to shade, the plant needs little water and is well resistant to insects. The rubber plant owes its name to the fact that rubber used to be made from the leaves. Nowadays, the plant is only grown to look beautiful in living rooms and office spaces. Originally, the Ficus comes from Africa, but the plant is also found in South America, Australia and Asia. The Ficus belongs to the plant family Moraceae, or Mulberry family. The Ficus Elastica Tineke has variegated leaves, which means the leaves have lighter spots. This makes it a striking and beautiful houseplant!
The Ficus Tineke is a very easy houseplant to take care of. The Rubber plant likes a light location but try to avoid direct sunlight so do not place the plant too close to the window. Furthermore, the Ficus prefers a temperature of at least 15 degrees. It is advisable to take the leaves off occasionally to promote growth, since they can collect a lot of dust. The Ficus Tineke needs water about one to two times a week. Between watering, let the soil dry well, and during the winter the plant needs less water. Between March and September, the Ficus would like to receive some plant food on a regular basis. Eventually, the Rubber plant can grow up to 2 meters high in a spacious pot! Please be careful, because the Ficus Tineke is toxic to children and animals.
