You’ve said yes to your other half, found a breath-taking venue and have set your sights on the perfect bridal gown, now it’s time to talk beauty. Along with hair and makeup, getting your skin ready to glow is key if you want to look your best on your big day.

If skincare is not in your skillset, but you’re interested in improving the appearance of your skin or tackle issues like acne and rosacea before the big day, this is the perfect time to make an appointment with a dermatologist to discuss what your goals are and what you need to achieve them.

Start introducing Retinol, or its plant based alternative Harungana, into your daily routine. These magic formulas help increase the production of collagen and blood vessels, actively smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles and diminishing hyperpigmentation.

It takes a couple of months to see the results and on the downside, you might experience flaking, dry skin, and some redness for the first weeks, which is why we recommend you begin with retinoid-like products long before your wedding, to ensure you’re getting the benefits and not the side effects of this treatment.

Up the ante on your daily routine. Cleanse, tone, and moisturise every morning and night. This is to free your face from impurities, detox your skin from the stresses of daily life, brighten your complexion and keep your visage looking healthy and radiant.

Last, but by all means not least, get religious with your water intake. Drinking eight glasses of water a day is key for a healthy-looking skin.

Avoid staying in the sun for too long and make sure you're wearing SPF every day, even when it's cloudy.

Regular exfoliation paired with a brightening serum will brighten up your skin for an unbeatable, natural glow no makeup can create. Exfoliation removes dead cells and helps the skin absorb certain deep-hydration products better.

Give your skin a sun-kissed look with the help of a tanning moisturiser. Incorporate it into your daily routine for an easy golden glow boost.

Upgrade your shower routine with a gentle moisturising body wash and a quick-post shower lotion. After a few days you’ll notice softer, smoother skin.

Acids such as AHAs and BHAs – included in many serums and cleansers - are effective saviours when it comes to hyperpigmentation, dullness, textural issues and balancing the skin’s pH.

If you’re doing your own hair and makeup, it’s time to pick out all the beauty bits you'll need on the day, so you have time to practice. Try out every product beforehand so you have enough time to recover if you have an allergic reaction.

Don't forget your hands. Use a gentle scrub weekly and follow it up with a generous amount of hand cream and cuticle oil.

This is the time to get active with hydration. Experts agree the ideal base to for flawless makeup is calm, moisturized, and firm skin, so if you want your face to be a perfect canvas for seamless coverage, reach for products that provide deep hydration such as hyaluronic acid or ingredients that support your skin’s natural barrier, to support the strength and elasticity of the dermis.

Just to be on the safe side stop using retinol, Vitamin C, and any chemical exfoliants as they have the potential to irritate your skin, trigger flakiness or create unwanted dry patches.

Put together your beauty kit including any makeup products you'll need to do touch-ups during the day.

The big day

Drink plenty of water and have a light, healthy breakfast.
